When to go

Getting there and getting around
Direct flights from the UK run in the summer season; outside it, connect via Athens, or fly to Athens and take the ferry. Ferries take a few hours and are pleasant but weather-dependent.
On the island, the constraint is late-night transport. The taxi fleet is small for the visitor numbers, buses run to the main beaches but not all night, and quad and scooter hire — the common workaround — is also the island’s most frequent source of holiday injury. Check whether your travel insurance covers it before you hire, because many policies exclude it outright.
Is it worth it
If the setting matters to you — the white streets, the sunsets, the beaches — it is genuinely one of the most beautiful places on the list, and the scene is international and busy. If what you want is a gay holiday with sun, bars and a beach, the same week in Sitges or Gran Canaria delivers that for a third of the money.
The reasonable middle path is Mykonos in June or September, staying slightly outside Chora, with one or two beach club days rather than seven. That is a very good holiday at an ordinary price.
